Frequently asked questions.
Where are you based & do you travel ?
I am currently based just outside of London, near Gatwick, although I am looking to move to Manchester later in the year, as South East prices continue to soar. I travel far & wide for weddings and fashion work. It has seen me travel to Mexico, Sicily, USA, France and many other lovely locations. Domestically, I am always prepared to travel to you and your wedding. I include travel & accommodation in my costs and am delighted to cover a wedding in Brighton or the North tip of Scotland.
When would I receive my photos & videos ?
You will receive the first ‘previews’ within 72 hours, as well as any polaroids that I passed to you on the day. As for the rest, I aim to get them to you within 2 weeks. I can never understand photographers that say its going to take 3 months, I know how excited you are to see and my goal is to get the edits done as soon as possible for you & prioritise the delivery back. My videos take around 4 weeks, this is due to the lab I have the super 8mm developed at taking a little longer as well as my video editor.
Why don’t your videos have sound ?
Super 8mm doesn’t capture sound unfortunately, unless you buy one of the newer models, which I feel takes away from the authenticity of it. I don’t really like attaching copyright free music to the videos as it’s never that great and I think it can cheapen the video. I send the videos over with no audio, but suggested tracks for you to play it too. This is again due to copyright and the legality involved in using music for commercial or professional use.
Do you shoot both film & digital photos on the day ?
I sure do ! Film is my main love. It’s expensive and you can never guarantee what you’ve caught, but that is the beauty of it. For me it’s like Christmas when I get it developed. I shoot digital predominately throughout the day however, so I can ensure I’ve got ‘THE’ shot. You’ll see me switching between formats all day long and that’s just the way I like it.
How can you capture everything on super 8mm & as photos ?
Honest answer, experience. I am used to it. I won’t lie , it’s a lot of work, but it’s the way I work and the way I enjoy it. I’d much rather be doing both formats than having several people trying to get your attention for content on your big day. I like being discreet but also having the ability to direct and create. My main focus is always photos, but I’ve found that you can tell a beautiful story on super 8mm very easily alongside the photo taking.
Why do weddings cost so much money ?
For me it’s time & materials. I totally understand how it can seem expensive but when you break it down, it does make sense, trust me.
Usually I’ll be travelling either the day before or the day after, sometimes both. Along with travel costs, this means accommodation too.
Alongside a 12 hour booking, there is also around 12 hours of editing, so 24 hours of work + travel.
Camera equipment, insurance & software, comes into the mind of a professional photographer. and additionally we also have our creativity, which is a resource that isn’t infinite, we have to be sure we respect that self worth and its integrity.
Shedding some light on material costs, super 8mm costs £200.00 per roll (I use 2), which includes purchase and development. A box of 5 rolls of film (which I use around 10 rolls of) costs £200.00+ to purchase and develop.
This is why as film photographers/videographers/creatives we have to consider and reflect our costs for our service.
Can I contact you easily up until the wedding ?
When you book me, I am yours. Contact me as much or as little as you like. I love mood boards, ideas, WhatsApp messages, emails, whatever works for you. I am just so happy, humbled and grateful to spend your big day with you !
How will I receive my photos & video ?
I will send everything over WeTransfer for you to download.
Do you have a second shooter ?
Whilst I usually shoot solo, I have an amazing array of very talented peers and friends. Let me know what you need and I’ll send some options to join us.
